You talking to me!?

I attended a workshop on Communication at the School of Life the other day and was amazed at how much more effective any conversation can be if the participants engage with something called Active Listening.
It turns out there are 5 key steps in effective communication
  • Pay Attention. Give the speaker your undivided attention, and acknowledge the message. ...
  • Show That You're Listening. ...
  • Provide Feedback. ...
  • Defer Judgment. ...
  • Respond Appropriately.

And it works.

So try it in your next conversation in a meeting, on the tube or down the pub. You will be impressed at how much more all participants take away at the first go at it, instead of the now common backwards and forwards scenario we lazily adopt.

And I hope there's a thing called Active Reading 'cos there's loads of great stuff in this most recent edition of ICEONLINE.

Join the conversation! We'd love to hear your thoughts.
